Nebraska Insurance Federation (NIF) and
Nebraska Actuaries Club (NAC) Scholarships
    SPECIFICS: Two $4,000 scholarships will be awarded, with each scholarship payable in four equal installments of $1,000 per semester over the course of academic years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. In addition, one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the academic year 2008-2009, payable in two installments of $500 per semester.

    Students must be entering a college or university as a freshman in the Fall of 2008. The $4,000 scholarships are funded by the Nebraska Insurance Federation and will be awarded to students entering the University of Nebraska at one of its three campuses in Lincoln, Omaha, or Kearney. The $1,000 scholarship is funded by the Nebraska Actuaries Club and will be awarded to a student entering any college or university in the state of Nebraska. Each scholarship is open to students graduating from any U.S. high school. Students must major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics with an interest in pursuing an actuarial career. All applicants must have demonstrated mathematical ability and evidence of some understanding of the actuarial field.

    TIMELINE: Each year's application deadline is March 31. Then in April, the NAC scholarship committee will select three winners (two Madden and one NAC) for the upcoming Fall/Spring school year. Winners will be notified as soon as that selection is made, and will be invited to a future NAC meeting to be recognized.

In-State Grants
from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Actuarial Science Program
    These grants are essentially scholarships, and the income is not taxable to the recipient. They are available to Nebraska residents only.

    Grants are based primarily on potential to succeed in Actuarial Science and secondary on financial need. The number of grants awarded and the amount of each grant is dependent upon the amount of contributions available for distribution. The allocation of these funds is determined by a Committee for the Nebraska Actuaries Club in conjunction with the Actuarial Science Program faculty. The winner may re-apply for the grant for one additional year. Applications are available in the CBA Undergraduate Advising Office, 138 CBA, 402-472-2310, or the Actuarial Science Program office, 210 CBA, 402-472-2330. Deadline to apply is March 1.

Out-of-State Grants
from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Actuarial Science Program
    These grants are essentially scholarships, and the income is not taxable to the recipient. They are available to non-Nebraska (US citizen or permanent visa) residents only. Applications are available in the CBA Undergraduate Advising Office, 138 CBA, 402-472-2310, or the Actuarial Science Program office, 210 CBA, 402-472-2330. Deadline to apply is March 1.

    Several awards, competitions, prizes & scholarships are available via the Actuarial Education and Research Foundation.

Part-Time Jobs
    Many students obtain actuarial employment on a part time basis during the school year with local insurance companies. These positions not only provide needed income for the student, but they also provide valuable on-the-job experience.

RASE Program
    An exchange program, with the State of Missouri, allows Actuarial Science students who are Missouri residents to attend the University of Nebraska at in-state tuition rates.

    Check with your admissions office for more information.

UNL Examination Award Program
    The award program is for actuarial science majors who are successful on the examinations given by the Society of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society.
